Research has taught us that promoting individual growth and learning requires a comprehensive approach: within the family and the classroom. For individuals to thrive, family-student relationships as well as teacher-student relationships must also. Recognizing individual needs within the family and the classroom is essential, as is identifying precisely where learning obstacles, both psycho-social and psycho-educational, manifest. Once the dynamic is understood, academic therapies can be designed to create structured opportunities for supported practice tailored to the study domain.
Assessment may be needed to inform and guide this process. Studies show that assessment simply for the sake of diagnosis is outdated and ineffective. Students who are struggling in school need to move into academic treatment quickly and efficiently. Assessment can serve this objective by identifying students' instructional needs and how they respond, at home and in school, to academic intervention.
My services embrace a holistic practice orientation that addresses the needs of families, students, and educators to support a family-school centered approach to academic mastery.
